Technique using Nodachi Odachi"Tosen-Niraminuki"
I came across this on Tenshinryu Hyoho's YouTube page. They still have techniques that use such a long sword, so I thought I would post this.

"I Tried Japanese Sword Fighting"
I came across this video somewhere/how. I really can't remember. That said, I finally watched it and actually enjoyed this guy telling about his first experience with Japanese fencing.
Something that went through my mind as he described his experience, was how perceptions and understanding changes as one begins to learn about something in depth. He found similarities between kendo and playing the shamisen and that was how he found his initial similarity. I can only wonder if he stays with it, and what he will perceive as different later on. A beginner will understand things one way, but someone who has practiced for say, 5 years, will perceive it differently. Likewise, someone who has practice their art for 20 years or more will see things even more different. It is difficult for me to say one is 'more right' than the others, but the level of understanding is different.
Anyway, I'm rambling. Enjoy!

Japanese Classical Martial Art (Ono-ha Itto-ryu)
I came across these videos from 2016, which were taken from sports Japan. Very interesting and very informative. I really like how we can clearly see some of the techniques used. I'm not sure why it didn't end up all in one video, but at least we can see the whole program.
As a side note, it's also interesting how this is practiced at a baptist church in Tokyo!
Enjoy!

Nito Ryu Ippon Reel
It's been too long since I last posted much, but never fear, I'm still here!
This got posted by KendoStar on their Facebook feed. It comes from the channel on YouTube, No Kendo, No Life.
It goes a long way in showing how hard it is to beat someone playing in nito. I've gone up against someone before like these and the combination of offense and defense is hard to get past. (I didn't by the way. I was soundly defeated!) The only downside to these clips is that we don't get to see the whole match.
Anyway, enjoy!

Hitokiri (Short Film)
This came up in my Facebook feed the other day. It was posted by Vlad Rimburg (Action Director, Fight Choreographer), but was apparently made by Jay Kwon.
If you want to kick back and watch some cool, bloody weapons fighting, then look no further!

Jackie Chan's First Movie!
Here is a little treat for all you kung fu movie fans out there! This was considered a lost film, since there were no known copies of it in existence. However, that changed when it got dropped onto YouTube in 2016. I don't know who owns the copyright on this and I don't know how long it may stay up. But here it is...
(In Chinese with no subtitles!)

From This Year's Kyoto Taikai - Hanshi
I'm just gong to re-post this, since it is so cool! It originally came from KendoStar's Facebook Page, and I'll quote the poster from there:
"Take a look at this amazing bout from this year's Kyoto Taikai - Hanshi division - featuring Shiro Konishi Hanshi (94yrs old) vs Yoshio Takasaki Hanshi (96yrs old)!"
Enjoy!

A Japanese Duel: 1898
I've spent a little too much time on Facebook lately, but while I'm there, I do manage to come across a lot of cool stuff. This came from a page called Historical Weapons Research Journal. The byline, according to them is 1898, San Francisco. Just a little piece of history.

I do wonder if either survived or not, even though it says neither would recover.

Jigen Ryu Heiho Kenjutsu in Kagoshima
Yamato Budogu posted this on their Facebook page, and I found it rather fascinating. Head on over and have a look at this video. It's not long (about 8 minutes), but it gives a good look at a lesser known school. You'll notice that it was originally broadcast on NHK World.

Two New Rurouni Kenshin Movies Starring Takeru Satoh Announced
It's been a while since I have been up to writing or publishing anything, but there are some things that are coming up that I wanted to share.
First up is this. TWO new Rurouni Kenshin movies are in the works. I can't really tell you how much I enjoyed the first three, especially since I was such a fan of the manga and anime.
While the lead is the same, much of the cast will be different, since much of the film will be in a different, earlier era. That, and hopefully we can finally get to see the full revenge arc. I guess we will have to wait and see!
Read the article on the Tokusatsu Network here! Enjoy!

I can't believe someone actually did this! And the thing is, they did a really good job with it!

Baji Quan Beggar Stick Fight applications
This cropped up in one of my feeds the other day and I thought it was pretty cool.
No. It's not really swordplay, but it does have some of the same elements to it. I love to watch and study classical weapons like this. It really connects you to the cultural history.

NHK Sports Japan — Kendo / Nito
Yeah. I haven't posted much in a while, so I thought I'd drop a couple of things in here today.
I just finished watching this on YouTube, and it's pretty good. It gives a basic introduction to kendo, competition, history (Primarily on Musashi) and the Nito-ryu style of kendo. There is some great competition footage, old and new, in there with analysis by Alex Bennett. It's 30 minutes, so get comfy.

Leg Sweep!
This is over on Facebook. A leg sweep in done wonderfully in a tournament. Presumably, this is a Tokyo Police tournament, since they follow older rules that allow for this type of thing.
I'd love to learn it though!
