NHK World - Nara and Yagyu
Very nice little video that I picked up from kenshi247. You have to go to the site to watch it, but it is well worth the 28 minutes of your time!

A Little Site Clean-Up
I had to clean up a few things on the site.
First I had to get rid of the link to Kung Fu Cinema. Unfortunately the site closed up for good a couple of months back and I still had the link up for it. It's a shame. I really liked that site. It was one of the best resources for martial arts films and news, and I went there often to find out what was coming up next.
I also had to change up Nine Rings. Nine Rings USA closed up, but the British site remains. Thus all orders from them are now going to be international. It's a shame, but what can you do?
It's a little early, but here's hoping that 2016 is a much better year for martial arts fans! As it stands, it looks like things will be changing soon. Though it is not precisely martial arts related, we do have a new Star Wars film coming up. If nothing else, it could spark more interest in the sword arts. Then there is Kung Fu Panda 3. That'll be fun! And finally, don't forget that we have the 2016 Olympics, that will have Tae Kwon Do, Fencing, Wrestling, and the like.
Looking forward to it all! Have fun and I hope to have new posts soon!

Into the Badlands
In case you missed it, AMC is going to air a new series coming in November called "Into the Badlands". It's description says it is very loosely based on the famous Chinese epic, Journey to the West. If so, I am really looking forward to it. If nothing else, it'll be the first time in a long while that we have had a true martial arts series on t.v.!
Check out the Official Site on AMC for more info.
You can also watch the Official Trailer on YouTube:
The series premieres on November 15 at 10 p.m.!

Victory and defeat: 15 points
If you are interested in a little history and some useful info, head over to kenshi247.net and check out this article based on one of the founders of modern kendo, Takano Sasaburo. It is on his 15 points to remember.

双水執流 腰之廻り 中編 Sousuishiryu 居合 Iaido
Cool video showing a different kind of iaido. It's interesting how he
holds his sword on his knee before executing a kata. Also, he seems to
favor wiping blood off instead of doing the usual chiburi.

NHK Sports Japan — World Kendo Championships
This is a cool video from NHK Sports Japan. It not only has a nice little introduction to kendo, but highlights the recent World Championships. I really like the slow motion captures of some of the strikes. They really help with seeing how fast these folks move!
Enjoy!

New MMA Sport?
This looks interesting. I wonder if it will get enough traction to get off the ground. If nothing else, the armor is really cool! I could really get in to learning/ pitting different skills against each other. As long as it doesn't turn into a bashing match like the current MMA trend.
Could these combat armor suits, designed to keep score and give spectators a first-person view, create an entirely new sport? http://voc.tv/1cRrjAQ

Master Yanqing Ding demonstrating 26 Movement Pudao
From the YouTube description:
Published on Jul 21, 2015
"All Chinese polearms fall under the category of Dadao, which literally
means “big knife (大刀).” While the character dao is conventionally
translated as “knife,” it may refer to any large blade that is curved.
The character pu (朴) in Pudao can mean “simple” or “unadorned,” or even
“sincere.” Today, Pudao refers to the generic polearm, which is a
two-handed weapon consisting of a broad steel blade mounted on a wood or
metal shaft.
Master Yanqing Ding has trained martial arts since
childhood. He is a layman disciple of Shaolin Temple and has
demonstrated for China’s President Hu Jintao, Premier Wen Jiabao and
Russia’s leader Vladimir Putin. He is the head master of International
Chi Institute in Alameda, California."

Out Of This Centruy - Articles on American Fighting Systems
I happened across a couple of really good articles located on another blog. They both deal with American martial art systems, and especially the works of Col. Monstery from the 1800's. Definitely worth the read!

YASKAWA BUSHIDO PROJECT / industrial robot vs sword master
Why would anyone want to build something like this? Don't they realize that when the robot uprising occurs, they were the ones that not only armed them, but now trained them?
Still, it is kinda cool.
